From our square-cut pizza to our legendary techno scene, Detroit is often recognized for driving the cultural boat—and our dancing is no exception. With the Detroit-created “Jit” style footwork that has continued to make waves across the globe since its inception, it was only right to celebrate the opening of our JARS West Detroit location with a good old-fashioned dance battle.
Located on the famed 8 Mile, we invited local dance collective JIT Happens to host the event with Detroit dance legends by the likes of Mav One, Standing O, and Queen Gabby as our illustrious judges. We also partnered with cannabis brand Viola to donate $3,500 to Motor City Street Dance Academy to keep the Detroit tradition of street dancing alive for generations to come.
If you missed out on this inspiring event or just want to relive the memories, read on for a recap of all of the action—and stay tuned for the next JARS event!
We were thrilled to welcome hundreds of you to an adjacent warehouse location to give our dancers plenty of room to do their thing.
We know that dancing (or simply getting high and watching) can make you pretty hungry, so we had Cookieee Boys on deck to keep your munchies satisfied.
Our friends at Vive CBD pulled up once again to quench our thirst throughout the day with CBD-infused cocktails.
And of course, there was dancing.
Lots and lots of dancing—we couldn’t have been happier to see how many of you showed up to strut your stuff.
Even the DJ had to spark one up in honor of your masterful moves. Can’t say we blame you, DJ Shane T.
While many did bust a move, we are pleased to report that no pants were split in the making of this event.
Even Grand Rapids native Cool Hand Luke of “So You Think You Can Dance” came through to compete with his signature wave style.
With such stiff competition, our judges had a tough job on their hands to decide on a winner.
In the end, the talented Kool Hand Luke took home the trophy.
But ultimately, we’re the real winners here. Thank you all for welcoming our new JARS West Detroit location and for stopping by to celebrate with us, Detroit style. Keep tuned for more exciting events and we can’t wait to see you at our new storefront.
